The Internet continues to turn up gems, both large and small . . . Watching Ms. Adams in 1950’s Crooked River is an excellent illustration to the chapter in her biography about her early Hollywood days.
In Crooked River Ms. Adams is billed as “Betty Adams” and sports a fluffy late-40s hairdo. Dressed in appropriate western gingham, she is a support to her brother Lucky, played by Russell Hayden. Although mainly “the girl” (or, more appropriately, “the sister”) in this opus, she comports herself well, one moment pulling a gun on the baddie, and the next moment making a poultice for her wounded brother. Despite the film being strictly what used to be called “a programmer,” Ms. Adams’ nascent talent and beauteous presence are apparent.
